| - I really wasn't expecting much, as we just needed an emergency spot to crash while the interior of my old place was being repainted. Despite the last-minute online reservation through their Web site, I still managed to get a decent-sized room for the weekend for about the cost of two regular nights' stay at a Strip hotel. Nothing surprising there, either, as these kinds of motor hotels aren't known for posh accomodations and amenities. This particular Holiday Inn is one of the newest in the Valley, and that was a definite plus; the continental breakfast had fresh rolls and the omelet trays were Actually Replenished! A couple brand-new cappucino drip machines rounded up the mix. The staff also were very nice and brought warm cookies along with the newspaper to the room each morning, which was a nice touch. The small gym area, which houses a couple treadmills and a cable station, was clean -- in fact, TOO clean. We came down with nasal allergies from the heavy chemical smell from the towels and carpeting...I never thought I'd prefer B.O. over "too clean," but who would have expected that? The front desk staff were very apologetic and knocked off 20% off the final bill.
All the furnishings in the room were brand new, and the choice of wired/wireless FREE high-speed internet also raised my eyebrows, as they nickel-and-dime you for everything at the larger hotels. If they can consistently maintain this level of service and quality, I will gladly recommend this Holiday Inn to friends and relatives passing through on a budget.
Of course it's far from the Strip, but if you know someone in town and can get around, it's good value. More money left over for the things that REALLY matter: Alcohol and sushi.
