| - After deciding to change out our landscaping in our front yard, we knew we wanted a couple nice trees, and also wanted to rip out a sad 15 gallon Ash tree that has literally not grown at all in the past three years (planted by our less than stellar landscaper when we did our backyard.) We are planning a backyard wedding for next spring, and were willing to spend more money on mature trees, which is how we ended up at Moon.
Upon our arrival we were greeted by everyone, and we proceeded to peruse the merchandise. This nursery has, by far, the most beautiful trees around. Some enormous ones requiring a crane, to smaller, less mature (3 years?) that can be brought home yourself and planted. Lilly, who was fairly new when she assisted us, helped us to pick our trees, and was very knowledgeable (and from California, a bonus in my book), letting us switch our trees out as we went, because the next one was always more beautiful than the first. We settled on a Crape Myrtle, an Australian Bottle Tree (not the same thing as a bottle brush tree), and a gorgeous Tipuana Tipu, which was highly recommended by Lilly, and we are so glad we went with her recommendation!
We were scheduled for installation about 10 days after we purchased them, and to make sure we were sent the trees we picked out, my fiancee marked each box with our initials, in an inconspicuous place. The guys arrived bright and early Saturday morning, and got to work. The crew was headed by Ben, who was very thorough and knowledgeable, and they got our large 36" box trees dug, amended the soil, and planted in a few hours. The guys worked so hard, and did such a great job, and the trees are all planted straight! (Which apparently is more of a challenge than it should be by some landscapers, because about half our trees planted by our original landscaper all have a distinct lean to them!) We couldn't be happier with our purchases, and as Ben put it, we picked some of the nicest trees they have ever had (we couldn't agree more......poor Lilly walked back and forth with us for over an hour, in horrendously hot weather.....but was always courteous and professional.)
Be aware, the larger trees are significantly more expensive, because most come with free planting. If you had your landscaper do the planting, you'd pay the same price for them to do the work of digging the hole as the tree cost. So, yeah, their trees are more expensive than, say Lowe's, HD or Star, but they are bigger, more mature, better looking, and they will deliver and plant them! Well worth the money, especially since, like most everyone out here, landscapers tend to cut many corners and don't even bother to truly amend the soil, they just toss some good dirt in the hole, drop the plant/tree in, and throw some ugly rock on top. You get what you pay for, and it's well worth the money at Moon.
