  • Stay away from these people (they do their sales mostly door to door anyway). They aren't exactly a scam but they are a rip-off. The name of the company is actually Rainsoft but they operate under this name in Mississauga/Oakville/Brampton, google Rainsoft and you'll know what I mean. You can get everything they're selling for cheaper elsewhere. If you go to Home Depot, Sears, Costco, etc, you can find fairly good reputable filters for $500-1300 which do the same thing (at regular price, sale would be cheaper) and reverse osmosis filters for less than that. This company is not the Sony of TV's and their products have problems too so why is their product so much more expensive? Their business is mainly selling water treatment systems and reverse osmosis filters for the water in your home. They'll send someone to collect a sample and then tell you you need to make an appointment (even if you got the sample of water from a distilled bottle). Do not let them make an appointment because when you do, they won't tell you that it takes a minimum of 2 or 3 hrs to do the whole "presentation." Hopefully you've eaten dinner beforehand. They'll start the presentation by saying "we're just interested in learning more about your water." At this point, they'll conduct a bunch of tests to show how bad the water from your fridge or tap or whatever is compared to water run through their ion filter. The problem however is that their experiment and the drops they add are designed to react with the minerals found in city water. Search up water filtration on CBC marketplace on youtube and you'll know what I mean. Of course the water is supposed to have minerals in it, it's treated in order to kill bacteria and we've been consuming it for decades. One of the demonstrations they use will show you how their treated water is more efficient at laundry/dishwashing because it reacts better with soap since the minerals are removed from their filtered water which is true, the laundry/dishwashing/shower do work better. BUT from what I've researched, it doesn't save you the amount of $ they claim even if you will use a bit less detergent or soap. There are also questionable effects of using their water without minerals because it can allow for bacterial growth in your pipes (since minerals are removed), the sodium is bad for watering the grass outdoors though they claim it's good, and they'll nitpick some studies from the 90's saying even low levels of chlorine are bad for water but you can find other studies saying a complete lack of minerals or what they're adding (sodium or potassium) is even worse in drinking water. We've been drinking city water for decades, people haven't been drinking this type of filtered water for decades though en masse so we can't measure the effects and say it's better or worse for drinking. The presentation will be very convincing and then they'll try to sell you the product....it's around $6000 plus installation or whatever other charges. They'll provide incentives like a lifetime warranty (which other similar products often have) and what they claim is a 10-12 year supply of laundry/dish washer/shampoo/soap/cleaning detergent etc however, they deliver this all at once in boxes as a concentrated solution which you have to mix at home. Most people can't pay $6000 at once so they'll say that you have to pay around $80/month for 10 yrs which works out to more than $9000. They'll then proceed to show you how you're paying almost nothing by saving on water bottles/fridge filters/cleaning supplies/water heater bills. Other stuff I've found shows you actually don't save 20-30% on your water bill and spend more so it's not worth the risk and why would you buy all your cleaning supplies at once? You might save but not the amount they're saying. The company is very persuasive but the one tactic they use is to tell you that the offer is only valid right now and you have to buy it right now otherwise they won't give the 10 year supply of shampoo/soap/detergent/cleaners. This is the trap which a lot of people fall in. The company will pressure you into booking an installation appointment the next day if you choose to buy so that you don't get a full refund in case you cancel the contract within a 10 day period. The reason they want you to commit right away and give you that now or never incentive about the cleaning supplies is because I don't think they want you to go out and find a different company which will sell you the product for cheap or do outside research on their own product.
