| - Love this venue for seeing live theatre ! Love it !
Ideally located on King Street with fantastic, quaint, overpriced restaurants nearby, it is one of the best venues in Toronto for experiencing live theatre. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house.
We were on the Orchestra level (nothing beats scoring free tickets) to see the new Les Miz and had ample view of all the stage...even the tall dude in front of me did not obstruct my view (we were row O). During intermission, I ventured out to grab a water and visit the washroom. I was directed by one of the friendly staff members to the bathroom on the upper level because, as the usher put it, it's less busy than the one below. She was right...during an intermission, I was the only person in the washroom....DURING an intermission !!! Line ups at the bar moved quickly and prices were not ridiculous as other places charge for water ($2)
While the theatre is not as "grand" as the Elgin or Winter Gardens, or as beautiful as the Canon, it's appeal is in it's simplicity. It's comfortable, ideally located, acoustically excellent, etc.
As a side note, if you get a chance to see the "reworked" version of Les Miz playing (it ends it's run on Feb 2, 2014 before heading to Broadway), go see it. It is excellent. Stellar cast with the amazing Ramin Kirimloo as Jean Valjon. A must see.
