| - Tuck Shop didn't disappoint. Good, bold and brave flavors to match their funky interior, an environment you wouldn't guess existed looking at it from the outside.
Why go there:
For one, the place is different, the food has a good array of seasonal goodies that could satisfy a small or large appetite with their apps, small plates and large plates. Fun things like cheese curds that remind you of the great greasy nuggets offered at a state fair was a good opening, pairing it with a nice pint was great for this warm weather. One thing that surely stood out was the bold flavors of the dishes served without and extra fancy pretentious theatrics, each dish had clear distinctions of what was in it. From starters to dessert, everything was on point. Most importantly, the owner of the place, Grace is present and bumbling around Tuck Shop, talking to patrons, new and returning. The best touch to compliment how hard the back of house was working. She played the role of our Sommelier this evening and found us the right wine after 4-5 tastings of a few that fell flat for us.
Don't miss:
If you start with a beer, share some cheese curds! The Mushroom risotto was one of the most memorable dishes I've had in a very long time. The Raspberry Croissant bread pudding with a sneaky good whisky sauce was a treat. That came with a sweet story about how that was Grace's mother's staple for holidays in their home, a nice personal touch.
Overall: Tuck Shop is a place for great food and conversation, it's relaxed and personal. Give it a shot, try not to rush through dinner there and try many of the small plates!
Tip: Reservations will save you, and they take them for 2!
Bon App!
