| - I'm really surprised by the amount of Scrooges and Grinches that write about Christmas lights in general, but here as well. I got a ticket slightly off at $25 from Costco, and figured I'd check it out with the family on a Friday night.
It wasn't a terrible wait, maybe 15 minutes around 6:30. From 4 lanes they make you go single file and turn off your headlights to see the light. They should at least let maybe parking lights for old people, but a jerk with high beams or new headlights can ruin the experience. But if everyone keeps everything off (which will probably never happen), it looks spectacular.
You tune in to 87.9 while you're there, and these average looking lights become great. Roll the windows down and you can hear the other cars too, the lights changing dynamically in tune with classic Christmas songs, Pentatonix, or even some remix versions. From the trebles, the bass, the drumlines - everything the lights did made sense with the music on the ride and make for some pretty awesome Instagram or Snapchat video. Maybe they're learning from their mistakes too, because in the 1.5 hours I was there between drive and festival we didn't hear "Despacito", thank god!
Afterwards you can pull over and check out a mini-fair. They have some food like lobster mac and cheese and funnel cakes that were actually good! Plus they had a Santa, light up tree, and some games and trinkets to bring home. And as you leave, you'll get a 25% off next visit coupon, which makes it cheaper than even Costco!
It's basically Christmas lights meets drive-in movie theatre. Compared to some of the other seasonal lights in the Valley and their premiums, Illumination has some of the best value. Definitely a good time for family or a car date.
