| - My wife and I were looking to try a new place, and with Yelp's help, we walked into Sushi Zen. It's a typical strip mall sushi place. The long counter had only about a third of it open, but that's all that was needed on this Saturday night. There was one table of four, another three people at the counter, and then the two of us. Despite the small number of clients, the service was incredibly S L O W. It took a very long time before we received our first roll. And, the drink service was equal- we went empty serval times as the wait staff never came around. Oddly, as the night wore on and the three at the bar left and then the table of four, and it was just us...it was still slow. The sushi chef was nice. He's American and we learned he trained under his mother-in-law. This is a family owned business.
The nigiri sushi itself is uninspiring, a solid average. But the rolls are surprisingly incredible. We could tell there was a great deal of thought that went into their design, and the creation took quite awhile as well. Between the two of us, we tried 5 different rolls. A couple were a solid good, a couple were great, and one was amazing. At $25 for all you can eat, a $50 bill for two at sushi isn't unreasonable. If you prefer traditional nigiri sushi, there are far better places, but, if you are all about the rolls, I recommend you give this place a try. Slow, but good.
