This place did not meet my expectations! The concept is really cool but besides that there is nothing really that makes me want to go back there. So sad because I love mexican food and korean food (obv). The restaurant has so much damn potential in name alone, 'komex', but it falls flat.
Just about anything on the menu you can get at a regular Mexican restaurant. There are influences of Korean dishes here and there but nothing that really explores the potential the KoMex genre implies. It seems more like a marketing attempt (a poor one at that) at capitalizing the Korean food craze right now. I'm all up for it but give us something unique, KoMex! There's just no creativity at all.
The interior/atmosphere is a mess. Was it previously an Aloha Kitchen or a Hawaiian bar that was converted to a restaurant last minute? I don't know what I'm looking at with all the coconut leaves. Definitely not even a semi-business setting or a place for couples unless you want to look like a cheap date. At the very least it looks decent for families and friends lol
After spending 5 minutes inspecting the interior and the menu (which was probably designed on Microsoft Word), I got it. They aren't trying to be the next hot thing. You come here to eat decent mexican food, that's it. Whatever imagination you had envisioned in your mind by hearing the word KoMex you can throw it out the window. Appreciate the place for its simplicity and food because FWIW it's not terrible, just not awe-inspiring.
