I had been a member of the signature club in Bakery square for a couple of years as a Squirrel Hill resident. I just moved out to the North Hills and wanted to transfer my membership to this one (non-signature club). The staff told me that I would have to pay a $99 'upgrade' fee to move my membership as I moved to a club less than 25 miles away. I thought this was outrageous and that LA Fitness should allow anyone that moved residence to move their gym membership as well. I didn't want to pay a $99 'upgrade' (but in reality, a downgrade) fee. So instead I cancelled my membership and will wait until they have their $0 initiation fee sale which will bypass the $99 fee. I told them of this plan, and they said that is okay to do but couldn't guarantee when it would happen (they usually happen for the New Years). The operations manager had a slight attitude when I told them about this plan, which wasn't nice, but the policy doesn't make sense!
