| - The BF and I decided to FINALLY venture over to Federal Pizza for a yummy Friday evening.
I've been waiting to try this place for a while, as I LOVE all the Upward Projects restaurants, and have heard rave reviews about their wine coolers and pizza.
We arrived around 8:30pm and the place was hopping for a Friday night, mid-summer... Always a good sign. The hostess greeted us with a warm smile and informed us that we could wait about 20 minutes or we were welcome to sit immediately at their pizza bar or the main bar. Both were full service so we opted to sit at the main bar, and forego the wait.
As we bellied up, Josh, our friendly bartender sporting a bright colored Hawaiian shirt, was quick to say hello and get us started with some waters while we looked over the menu. After a few moments of sipping on a blueberry hibiscus wine cooler and a draft hef, we quizzed Josh on his favorites and decided to start off with his recommendation of Arancini, delectable
Fried Risotto balls, with Herb-Stuffed Parmesan & Mozzarella, finished off with Pomodoro Sauce, a sprinkling of Grana Padano. Normally I'm not a huge risotto fan, but boy oh boy, this was a crisp and flavorful delight.
Next, we decided to order the Meatball pizza sans onions, sub mushrooms. The perfect 12' pizza arrived in a prompt time of 15 minutes, with gooey, bubbling mozzarella and the plethora of toppings. I was particularly excited to read on the menu that the handmade dough they used came from MJ Coe, and if you are familiar with that name, you know it's going to be good, and I was right. Normally I'm a crust tosser, but not this time!
We decided to skip on dessert, however I really want to go back and try out their bombolini, described as "warm donuts with chocolate dip"... Umm, yes please!
We finished off with another round of drinks, however I switched from the blueberry hibiscus wine cooler and tried the strawberry rhubarb... Which is now my new favorite drink. It's house made, bubbly and refreshing, even the BF liked it.
Did I mention they have a drive thru as well? Don't feel like dining in? Call it in and pick it up! Definitely coming back to Federal when I'm craving some good pizza and cocktails!
