My wife and tried this place out for the first time recently after a movie at the theatre across the street. We ended up having one of my favourite meals in a long time.
We ordered the bone marrow, the Scotch egg, the gravlax on a blini, and a salad with chicken. All dishes were genuinely delicious and comforting. We particularly enjoyed the orange julep and gin and tonic cocktails. Unlike the majority of restaurants, Dominion Square Tavern doesn't mix cocktails so they taste sickly sweet. Instead, each drink had nuance between bitter and sweet. This results in a truly refreshing drink each time we ordered (we repeated the process multiple times). For dessert we tried the toffee pudding which was served warm and was delicious as advertised.
The only negative comment I would offer would be regarding the consistency of the nutmeg doughnuts with sour cream. Although they were served warm, the inner consistency of the doughnut was very dry and tasteless. It seemed as if they had been made a week earlier, frozen, and then defrosted and flash fried before serving. Also, the sour cream didn't add anything to the dish. Perhaps they could try a creme anglaise or some Nutella for dipping?
Altogether however, this restaurant offers diners something unique and special in this city. We will definitely be back.
