  • so my wife bought me the snobbery tour for my birthday and it was pretty cool to learn about the "bean to bar" concept. I'm one of the founders of Tool Shed Brewing Company and I'm currently designing our 2nd collaboration beer with Big Rock brewery that involves chocolate and the story of Choklat was one I though would be a great one to share, similar to the beer we made last year with Phil & Sebastian https://vimeo.com/92565782 After weeks of attempts to get ahold of someone failed I went in and caught Brad in the shop. Just a simple courtesy to say, "hey man, Great Choklat and even BETTER story to tell, I'd love to include it in this beer and share your story" not looking for anything free, just want to make sure they were cool with some free marketing. Gotta say I was SHOCKED at Brad's response. I received a lecture about how this isn't his hobby, he does it for money!! and Brad doesn't mix things he likes with things that make him money! he actually continued this rant to include how he likes dirt biking but "do you think I want to coach a bunch of whiners!!" I literally sat in awe of what I was witnessing from simply walking into the store and introducing myself. having quit my job and put everything in my life and my family's lives on the line to make my obsessive hobby my career, I always look for people as passionate about what they do as I am about what I do! Brad is not that guy. When someone uses their first meeting to make sure you know they don't like what they do!!!???? That's new to me. Anyway, he went on to say "NO" to us using his choklat and how he remembers me trying to get a hold of him but he wouldn't get back to me because he doesn't want us to use his choklat. So anyway long story short. The chocolate was good but unfortunately the interaction with Brad FFFAAAAAARRR outweighs the product. We'd all like our businesses to stand solely on the merits of our product, but interactions like this more often than not define your business in the eyes of the public.
