My wife and I gave this place a try way back when it first opened and we thought it was terrible and haven't been back since. Last night we were in Plaza Midwood with family who wanted BBQ so we decided to give it another shot. WOW, you've come a long way Midwood Smoke House!!
There were 4 of us and everyone was very pleased with their dinners which included shredded chicken, salad with pulled pork, smoked wings and the burnt ends plate.
The shredded chicken was good but this was the least impressive meal of the bunch. It lacked smoke flavor and almost had a 'watered down' taste. The burnt ends dinner was excellent. The meat has a good smoke flavor, it was moist and tender to the point you could cut it with a fork. I did however think that for an $18.50 dinner the meat portion was a little on the small side. The smoked wings were very good, cooked perfect. The salad with pulled pork was large and although I didn't try it I was told it was excellent as well.
The sides, I was able to try the mac and cheese, greens and BBQ beans. Mac and cheese is on point. It is moist and has a great flavor unlike at some places were it dries out and has a bland taste. The collard greens were really good, not to salty as they can be from time to time and had a nice amount of meat mixed in. The BBQ beans were a hit as well.
If you're like us and tried this place a while ago and weren't happy it is definitely worth a second try, they seem to have come into their own and it's pretty dam good now.
