I swear I only find myself in Macy's if it's wedding-related. Usually to buy a gift for someone off their registry, and occasionally when pals are looking for dresses to wear to a wedding. For me, their prices are a little too rich for my blood, at least in the fancy dress department.
Another thing that doesn't really motivate me to go on my own is that it's difficult to find help when you need it. Even if you luck out and happen upon an employee I've had interactions like my most recent:
*comes in to pick up an online order, directions say to go to men's sportswear, go to what looks like men's sportswear, see employee standing in the racks*
S: Hi, I need to pick up an online order.
E: Where is it?
S: The confirmation said men's sportswear.
E: That's where you are now.
S: Okay. Can I pick up my order?
E: *turns to a person putting on a tie that I thought was a customer* Can you go get an online order?
S: *mentally slams head on imaginary desk*
I will say that when I have purchased wedding gifts in store Macy's does do a good job of packaging it nicely in an attractive bag with tissue paper that you could use to deliver the gift if you were in a pinch or needed to save time if picking it up on your way to the wedding. Not that I ever did that in my youth.
TL;DR - adequate for my wedding gift needs, not a place I would frequent on my own.
