Had the most unbelievable experience at this location today. First, I go to Starbucks just about every single day. I live in the south east valley so I tend to go near my home but, I have been going to Starbucks daily for years so I have a pretty good understanding of how things work.
So, I went into this location today with my daughter. I ordered two tall Americanos in grande cups with room. I understand this can be a little bit of a confusing order so when I get there, both our cups are only half full. I very politely asked the barista (Dyllon) if I could possibly have some more water in each of the cups and asked if he could possibly leave an inch of room. He put the extra water in the cups and handed it to us. There was no carafe of half and half out so I asked if I could please have some cream. He takes a tiny little child's cup and puts about a tablespoon of half and half in the cup. I pour the tablespoon into one of the cups of coffee and then asked the barista if I could have some more... Keeping in mind I have 2 cups of coffee. He puts another tablespoon of half-and-half in the little child's cup and hands it to me. I put that half-and-half in the same cup I put the other tablespoon of half-and-half and then asked the barista if I could please have some more cream as I have 2 cups of coffee. He tells me at this point he would normally have to charge me for the half-and-half. I asked him to please clarify what he meant and he said that the amount of half-and-half that I was requesting requires that they charge me. What!?!? I have gone to Starbucks daily for years and never, ever have I heard of anything like this. So I told the barista that... that I am a daily customer and I have never heard anything like that. He tells me he is a manager and that is the policy. He then goes over and whispers to another barista who comes over to me.
So I asked the other barista if that was indeed correct and she advised me that yes, anything over 4 ounces of half-and-half means that they will charge you. OK... I didn't even have 4 ounces of room in the 2 cups of coffee that I was asking to put cream into. I explained this to her... That I had asked for an inch of room. An inch of room gave me about 2 tablespoons of cream in each cup of coffee... Certainly not the 8 ounces I would have been entitled to having purchased 2 cups of coffee if indeed the "4 ounces of cream per cup of coffee" rule was even true.
And even if it was true, how could they ever possibly enforce that? Most Starbucks put a carafe of cream out and you can just add it to your coffee. Could not even believe this whole experience. Ridiculously rude baristas with terrible customer service.
