| - The allure of the Ostrich is plain and simple: "Hey, there's a speakeasy in downtown Chandler!"
Burrowed beneath Crust, just a stones throw away from San Tan Brewery, I had to check it out. Brought here by a couple good friends who spoke fondly of their former experiences, we were in luck to be seated quickly on a bustling Friday night. Our hostess tucked us in the corner of the dark and crowded lounge. There's actually a pretty cool 360 view on the website: https://www.kapow.com/events/phoenix/ostrich-crust-phoenix-speakeasy-reception/#view360
The music inside was very loud, to the point that shouting was necessary to be heard. Though, we were seated next to a speaker. I still really liked the ambiance and the cool-factor of this place. I'm smitten for cocktails and they have several varieties of Old Fashioned's. I selected one with a tequila base and was pleasantly surprised. There are many different drink options and you can tell that they intend to emphasize quality.
I'll be honest, on my way out, I didn't like seeing the team of bouncers checking IDs at the door. It looked a bit excessive and felt more like an Old Town Scottsdale thing, rather than a Chandler thing. Also, it sounds like from other reviews, this place is rather strict on dress code, so be ready.
Overall, I intend to come back introduce this place to my wife and other friends. It's definitely a different scene for the area and I want to reward the creativity!
