I am a female in my mid-twenties and a few weeks ago I was looking for a new mechanic in the GTA. I called Master Mechanic to explore a diagnostic because my car's Check Engine light had come on. I realize that the Check Engine light connects to many systems so sometimes these diagnostics can be time consuming. When I spoke to the mechanic, he told me their prices of $108/hour for the diagnostic and when I asked how long it might take he said "We do it for as long as is needed until we find something." I then asked what my worst case scenario would be, understanding that it may take several tests, but surely it couldn't be an infinite number of hours, charged by the hour. The mechanic said, in a very condescending and sarcastic tone, "I don't have a crystal ball." That was the extent of his explanation. I found this very rude and unprofessional. I was simply looking to understand how long they would spend on my car before calling me with either a diagnosis or to ask permission to keep going because they couldn't find anything. I decided to take my business elsewhere and found a mechanic willing to take the time to explain things to me and walk me through the process.
