I might as well cut to the chase. Either David Arquette has early-onset Alzheimer's or was absolutely hammered when I saw him in Friday night's production of Sherlock Holmes at the Ed Mirvish Theatre. He dropped lines, stepped on his fellow actor's lines, giggled at his mistakes, went in and out of a bad British accent and mispronounced words. Train wreck.
As much as the audience may have loved DA, even they could only manage tepid applause for him and certainly no standing o. While the set was inventive, the music interesting (though too loud), and the structure of the play intriguing - who cares??
David Arquette reminds one of nothing more than the high school quarterback cast as the lead, while the real actors groaned inside at his ineptitude.
