  • While the dentist I saw and his assistants were very nice, overall I cannot recommend Southwest Dental Group. You know that car mechanic you go to that finds a million expensive things wrong with your car? That's how this office operates. I had a crown that had developed a cavity underneath. The dentist had to refer me to a specialist to address it (a second co-payment and treatment plan), then I was to come back and the dentist would complete the treatment. Separate appointments, separate wait times, separate time off work. They also said I needed THREE new crowns. The specialist I was referred to was in the same business complex and is apparently associated with SW Dental Group. I waited forever and he finally saw me after enduring a number of painful x-rays (they jam the plastic film thing way back there), looks at me briefly, tells me to schedule an appointment and they give me an estimated bill for $900 without any anesthesia. This guy knows I'm in pain and refuses to authorize anything for it. Meanwhile, he has no immediate appointments available, so I'm supposed to live with the pain. Long story short: SW Dental bills for everything, every cotton swab practically, you wait for multiple appointments for one issue, they tell you you'll need a load of expensive treatments (I skipped the part where I needed a periodontal scaling), and then, to add insult to injury, THEY IMPROPERLY SUBMIT THE BILL TO INSURANCE. For three months I've been going round and round with them about a bill they send me. At first they said, oh, the person who does it is out, and someone else submitted it under a pediatric dentistry code. Just ignore it. This month I called back because they sent a bill threatening to turn the bill over to a collection agency. 40 minutes later, on hold back and forth while they tried to figure out what was gong on, they finally said the bill was for services my insurance didn't cover - an x-ray. Does it make sense that my insurance wouldn't cover an x-ray? They said it was the special kind of x-ray. Whatever. I ended up finding another dentist at Chandler Modern Dentistry, they took me in right away, did all x-rays and treatment in-house, in one appointment, and using state-of-the-art digital x-rays (no jamming stuff to the back of the throat). They did it all right there, right then, including the final crown! AND cost almost HALF of what SW Dental was charging. They also don't think I need expensive periodontal scaling, just a regular cleaning, and NO other crowns, just a couple of small cavities, And they didn't charge me extra for nitrous oxide, which I very much appreciated. They are great, seriously. SO if you like being price-gouged,told you needed services you don't, jerked around, forced to make several appointments and then arguing with the staff over mysterious bills, SW Dental is the place. I personally avoid businesses that inflate what services are needed while making treatment uncomfortable and inconvenient for me, charging high-end prices and on top of that refuse pain medication for a dental issue that was verified? That's unforgivable. Never again will I go there.
