| - Ill do 2 reviews one short and one detailed.
Short: Avoid like the Plague!!!
Detailed: Upon walking into this "shop", which should be called a museum (believe me, your there to look NOT to buy), your greeted by a pompous arrogant record collector type pr**k. He gives you the spiel, so hopefully he can get you out of his store fast so he can get to better things than showing you where the section you want to look at is (no, you cant just browse the store, you need to tell him upon entry exactly what your looking for). He goes through his rules, nothing is priced, he prices his records based on online guides (which ones he wouldn't mention), you don't like the price pound sand, he is the ONLY shop for miles with this stuff, so go find it somewhere else. I was immediately put off by his attitude. I mean, its alright to be direct, but it's another to insult my level of "collector status". I am a record collector, and I will surely know when your trying to rob me blind, but more on that later.
I'm a punk record collector first and foremost, so I ask to see his punk records. His employee, who was at least civil, showed me the way up and around the store. Showed me to the section and went about while I browsed, at least he didn' t watch me with the evil eye, like some stores. First thing I noticed off the bat....NOTHING is in plastic sleeves. Never been to a shop with any rare records that are not in sleeves, absolutely ridiculous! On the plus side (the only plus side) he did have some decent punk records, some with multiples (good thing, because sleeve condition is so bad on some of these LP's that you'll need to search through all 3 or 4 to find a decent one). After reading the reviews from my fellow Yelpers about how crazy the prices were I picked a few records I knew to be fairly cheap as a feeler. First record he looks at (Angry Samoans Back from Samoa LP) he tells me, everyone who comes here picks up this record, but nobody can afford it...$100. Next! Not going to pay a 100-150% mark up. I also brought up 2 UK Subs LPs, which were $60 (because its blue vinyl, the whole flipping press was on blue vinyl!) and $50. Should have left then, but decided to check out the reggae section, which was about 50 albums or so. Picked out a couple, the wailing wailers record on studio one and a Heptones greatest hits. Once again he tells me "you cant afford the Wailers" as he quotes me $150 even though he doesn't know the pressing info and he has three copies, this is a $50 record at best, absolute best. Wasn't about to bite on a $60 70's Heptones Hits record.
All in all, a horrible experience at a horrible store. At least put your records in sleeves, horrible to see all those masterpieces deteriorating!!!!
