Ambiance and Service: 4 stars
The space looks very nice. I really liked the wooden accents. We were able to get a table by the window. It was great looking out the window while enjoying some tea and desserts. The service was good as well.
Food: 3 stars
The second floor had a different food menu than downstairs and other Tsujiri locations (they offer soba noodles and new desserts such as pancakes and high tea set). The night my group of friends went, they only had 3 items available from their dessert menu (which was kind of disappointing!). I ordered the matcha pancake platter ($14), Warabimochi ($5) and a drink. I had tried their other dessert from their downtown store before, and I really liked their soft serves and shaved ice with mochi; but these new desserts were just O-K. The pancake did not have a very strong matcha flavour, but the tea ice cream that came with the pancake was good. This was my first time trying Warabimochi, it is a jelly-like confection, unlike the chewy mochi made from glutinous rice. This was not my cup of tea. I did not try their savory food items, but they seem interesting!
If you a matcha fans like me, I will stick with ordering from their counter menu from first floor. But overall, this new Tsujiri location is ideal for people who would like to try some food items (such as soy milk soba or the high tea set). And it is a nice space to bring friends for a Japanese tearoom vibe.
