| - Delicious meal, exquisitely prepared with star service!
Being in the mood for something special, but one where I didn't have to get changed into something fancy, I chose to dine at Wolfgang Puck tonight. I have been going for a few nights for dinners and lunches, but I have never tried their tasting menu.
Dining on my own, I thought it would be perfect since I wanted to try new dishes, but didn't have to deal with a massive amount of food on my own. Generally, the tasting menu is for 2 or more people, but the staff took pity on a solo diner.
It's not because they let me try it that I'm gushing, but it's been a while in Summerlin where I feel I've had a perfect meal. I have my favorites in town, but, let's just say that it's been a while since I've so thoroughly enjoyed my meal like tonight.
To start, the staff was friendly, inviting, and accommodating. The service was well paced, and not intrusive. I portion sizes for the tasting meal was perfect for me, and you get five dishes, so it filled me up. Some may think it small, but I think it's exactly the amount of food - actually they give you more than what one should eat healthily for a dinner.
The tasting menu consisted of 5 dishes.
1) an appetizer of salmon tartar - two oval mounds with creme fraiche and two large pieces of potato chip. The salmon was seasoned with a bit of crunch from cucumbers. It was mild in flavor, but the potato chips made a difference. It was clean tasting and and just enough to get my appetite going. Really good!
2) I've been eating a lot of their WP Chopped, and never tasted the Apple Endive. It's my new favorite. It has endive, macaron almonds, fennel, apples, and I forget what else. It comes with dots of balsamic, and it's crunchy, vinegary, sweet, and savory. Loved it!
3) Pappardelle with boar was fabulous. I'm going to run out of superlatives to describe my meal. The pasta was thinner than most pappardelle, so that you can almost see your fork on the other side. The sauce was just sticky enough to coat each of the strands, and it was perfectly seasoned. I usually ask for chili flakes on my pasta, but I didn't even ask for it this time, because it was really flavorful. After this dish, I was getting full, and wondered how many dishes were in a tasting menu here. I finished everything. I'm on a low carb diet as well, but I ate the whole thing. It was just enough for me not to feel guilty. If I weren't on low carb, I'd definitely order this many times.
4) The market fish. I forgot what fish it was, but it was flaky and cooked well. I loved the foam. I think the server said it was some mushroom flavor... I don't know. But it was slightly salty, and ethereal - yeah, it's foam so it doesn't linger. The skin on the fish was crispy. I peeled it off and ate the whole thing first. So yummy. then, I squeezed the charred lemon on the rest of the fish and spinach. This dish is flavorful, but also super health. I'm on weight watchers, and on the program, I can probably eat this all night long. Excellent!
5) Finally, the dessert was cheesecake. Not just any cheesecake, but one that is creamy, moist, with texture that was substantial but also melted with a great mouthfeel. It came with fresh berries, whipped cream, and coulis. It was just the right amount of sweetness. I had to really work on my will power not to finish it, but it hit the spot.
This was the perfect meal I was craving all day, and they delivered. THANKS for a great meal. AND, for $50, I think I'd go back again. Maybe it's not an every day meal for every one, but it sure felt like a value to me for all that I tried. The portions for me were great, and I'm not overstuffed and feeling uncomfortable after the meal. It was healthy, and super tasty.
Wolfgang Puck has really kicked it up a few notches.
