| - This place is pure evil. It exists in this convenient, centralized, accessible location to capitalize on your moments of weakness -- moments when the temptation is so strong that your discipline and self-control crumble. You know what I'm talking about. It's those moments when you just say "screw it all," abandon all of your self-governing rules, and finally succumb to the urge to just go get yourself a piece of cake.
And when you get here, you are overwhelmed by the selection that is presented to you. Cheesecakes, normal cakes, cupcakes, so many flavours, available by the slice or by the cake. The choice is so difficult that it is agonizing, paralyzing you as you stare into that glowing case of treasures, salivating to no end. To make things worse, the prices are very reasonable, so you feel tempted to get more than what you originally planned on.
You make your selection and the friendly lady packs it neatly into a box for you with a fork and napkins. And that's about the end of your dramatic experience. You open the box, take a bite of the cake, and find it to be dry, uninteresting, and largely unsatisfying. Such a tragedy after an intense build-up of suspense and anticipation.
Well.. that was my experience at least. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I got a slice rather than a whole cake (it was a slice of Carole's chocolate cake). I was not impressed at all. My colleague who opted for something different, some sort of pistachio mousse thing, was equally unimpressed. It's really too bad.
