  • Let me start off by saying that I've been in retail for about 5 years. Not only does this make me a little more lenient than most, but it ALSO makes me extremely irritated at unnecessarily terrible customer service. I went in with the expectation to dye my hair a lighter ashy brown (coming from dark brown with reddish undertones). I have natural hair right now, but I dyed my hair constantly in all different colors from the age of 12 to 20 (so it's not like I am totally new to dyeing my hair). When I came in and started looking around, the woman working the shop asked if I needed help. I said yes and that I wanted to go into a lighter ashy brown and just needed to know which developer to use. She immediately didn't know what I was talking about and made sure to let me know in the rudest way possible. She made it seem like I didn't know what I was talking about by saying things like "you know you're going to have to lighten it, right?" like, yes, I know. I kept repeating that I SPECIFICALLY wanted COOL tones, not warm or red tones. She then said that I needed to streak my hair because that's what "tone" was, even though I was saying I wanted COOLER TONES. It's fine if you don't understand what your customer is saying! But when in customer service, your job is to suck it up and figure it out for them. She didn't even ask for a photo, but I showed her anyway, and then she said that the photo I was showing her was the opposite of what I was saying even though they were pictures of "ashy brown" hair on reputable internet sources. I'm not NEARLY as incompetent I'm sure some of her costumers usually are, so I feel really bad for the people coming in who really don't know what they're talking about. I would have bought WAY more from her (I also needed scissors and purple shampoo) but I wanted to get out of that store so fast that I just paid for my stuff and left. At the register, I let her know that I am a beauty insider (or whatever their rewards program is) but that I didn't have my card. Instead of saying "oh I'm sorry, I can't look up your number because our systems are down" she said "That's not going to work". The rude negativity was ridiculous. My favorite thing is that my boyfriend had decided to come with me on this shopping trip and when we left, he was ALMOST angrier than I was.
