| - My visit to Bank and Baron was to try something new for my boyfriend's bday. We were very interested to see what was done with the building to restore some of its historical character.
I had read that they wanted to keep the 20's vibe and described it as a London style pub.
If definitely has the heavy, dark wood and carpeting down, but I would say its more Gatsby-esque. Walking in, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and taken allllll the way upstairs, to be seated on the mezzanine.
Our server Jade was with us within a minute to greet us and tell us about the menu.
They have the usual drinks, plus a few cocktails with a twist. I had a Pimm's cup, and it was the first time Ive had it in Calgary, where it tasted like the original English recipe. Lots of fresh mint and chunks of cucumber and apple.
They serve a few local brews as well, if you arent into imported.
I chose the spicy chicken and quinoa salad. The chicken wasnt really very spicy, but was served in a crispy cheese basket on top of the quinoa. It was a huge, generous plate, with guacamole, roasted corn and peppers mixed in.
My bf had the Kobe beef burger, which he described as "face meltingly delicious". The patty was thick and tender, bacon and fresh spinach on top. He chose a kale salad for a side, served with a bright vinaigrette, and apple shavings on top.
Right before we were preparing to grab our bill and head to laser tag, our server came over to surprise us with a piece of s'more cheesecake! She had remembered that I had mentioned it was my bf's birthday. It was a very sweet gesture. One of those little things that makes a place want to come back, which I definitely will.
