  • There's a reason Ive been coming to Ultra for years - I dont have to worry about the finished product - period. Im not into monster systems however doing a lot of sound production, etc has lead me to become an audiophile over the years. I like clean sound. the neighbors dont have to know im coming down the street but when im cruising, I want to 'listen to' my 320kbps audio file for instance. Ive had both my Accord and CRV done here (most recently). Now keep in mind living in the east end of the GTA meant at times it was more 'convenient' to hit up a local dealer for a quick job. Cool. But it was a roll of the dice wheras at Ultra, I KNOW ill be smiling when its done. With car audio, we build our hopes on what we're 'assuming' they've translated correctly from our audio needs which begins the search for the right combo/install of components I must say Ultra has had to clean up someones job or two for me in the past and its always been perfect. Of course, ive already paid for it once at that point but the security of knowing Ultra will get it right is not only reassuring but well worth the drive. Speaking of which, they're out near 427 and Dundas. There are several food options nearby if you're willing to walk about 10-15 minutes...Greek food/Souvlakis, Subway, etc + a Good Life on West Mall for those long jobs! ;) But I digress.. I remember years ago when Ultra was located across the street and I had my Mazda Protege. Among other things, I had my Alpine 9835 installed there. When the car was ready, the installer (wore glasses) complimented me on the great choice in head unit I made. (Loved it..I retired it..but its still mint and works like day 1). Anyway, the installer took 10 minutes and broke down the advantages of tweaking the 3 way crossover, slope, db, etc. It wasnt just about getting a few bucks off some youngen and zipping in the next car....no, they wanted to make sure I knew how to use the equipment i had to better achieve the sound I was looking for. Joe and the boys are awesome! And their formula hasnt changed over the years. See, the problem with a place like Ultra is they get mired by the 'yo I heards...' from people who shop for decks at places like.........well, lets just say they get the commercial price points in their heads for a '6.5 door speaker' for instance. Then they walk into Ultra and describe the rich sound their looking for. They're then introduced to Focal speakers for instance (installed in my Accord doors) and are shocked to find out that - yes - the better quality stuff comes at a higher price point and all of a sudden - Ultra gets branded as thieves. In all fairness, and from experience, Ultra's labor costs are on par with most 'non commercial' installers. As far as the quality - yes, my Focal 6.5's cost a bit more than your paper Kenwoods but mine sound 1000 times better. And its not even about A is better than B because all of our tastes are different when it comes to audio. Its more about 'do I get the sound/look/feel I was hoping to achieve without breaking the bank. Having said that - Id sooner have Ultra install those paper speakers properly Had I wasted money on them. and we've all went that route at some point in time, no? Did you learn that spending a tad more on better quality goes a looooong way when it comes to electronics? Thats the question......... My 06Accord has the Focals in the front and a 12" JLv3 sub in a BassWedge box in back. Because I chose to invest in good speakers and because I wasnt into multi amp solutions, Joe suggested the Kenwood x450 - a more than capable 4 channel amp. 2 channels push the Focals and the back is bridged on the JL. The deck - now a Kenwood BT900 gives life to the system including the 6x9MTX speakers in the rear deck. Yes - even I took advantage of a commercial deal but I did the research, and these were more than adequate for my uses of providing that rear fill. The boys at Ultra welcomed the choice so I could save a few bucks and made sure the install was clean. Overall? My Accord sounds AMAZING.. The CRV install was exciting...pics posted. I needed my rear space so I went with a (Kijiji found) 8inch Microsub ported JL box for a smaller footprint. For the deck, I went with the Kenwood DDX 371 (through commercial discount/store credit +replacement plan). For the front and back speakrs, I went with 6.5 Kicker CS (commercial deal) The amp same setup - 4 channel Alpine MRPf300 (kijiji). Kenwood backup camera..(kijiji). Being a CRV used for biking, etc, I wanted the amp under the seat as opposed to restricting rear seats from folding down. No problem...it was like an episode of Pimp my Ride and both Joe and Saeed are great. They offer suggestions on future paths etc without being pushy or promoting products you dont need. When I turn it up, the sound is so clean...and thats what im looking for. Hey Joe/Said!! Ill be seeing you soon with a new project!
