  • Sadly, this is a two star review simply due to the fact that the Centennial at 5th leasing staff is poorly trained and accustomed to unethical business practices. Please read my post in its entirety. The apartment units deserve a 5 star rating as they are spacious & comfortable but the rent prices increase weekly and rent is on the pricier scale. We decided to transfer to a unit without garages as this would have lowered our rent to $1150. I'm a frequent yelper so I'm posting this review, not just because I'm upset, but because people should be warned of the issues at Centennial at 5th. To begin, here is a list of changes since I moved in last year: 1. Security: we had active patrol. One guy would be driving around in a car while the other walked the grounds. What we have now is a joke. The "security" team now just sits by the main pool, listening to music, checking that you have your pool pass. I hardly see them walking the grounds. Again, a joke. 2. Management: the previous manager would communicate and completed paperwork in a timely manner. This New manager and leasing staff fail to keep up with their daily work load and fail to communicate with each other. The company does not pay for overtime, and I've heard time and time again the girls at the office are not happy which of course reflects to tenants. 3. Parking: I'm so happy we have garages because parking here is a nightmare. The apartments are at a 99.8% capacity, as mentioned by a leasing agent, this means parking will continue to be an issue. Now, main problem: when I signed the original lease last year, everything processed smoothly. I requested a transfer this year & the entire process has been a headache. I waited to give my 30 day notice because I knew we were transferring to a different unit. Carla completed the paper work & on the cost sheet she clearly marked I could pick up keys on the 8th to start moving in and return the keys from the old unit on the 10th; I would get 48hrs free of charge to move in. She WROTE THIS INFO on the cost sheet. Well, I kept calling every few days for about 3 weeks to get an update on the transfer. NO ONE would give me an update. At this point I was freaking out since our move in date was May 8th. Finally, Carla calls me to tell me she didn't understand what was taking so long & why the manager would not complete the transfer. Fast forward a week & I finally get the ok to start transferring services (around May 4th). Fast forward to move in date; I call on the 8th to schedule a time to pick up my keys, I'm told I couldn't pick up keys until the 9th as that was the date noted on the paper work. I was livid. I knew for a fact what Carla & I had discussed. So I felt as if management thought I was lying. I had multiple discussions via phone, one of which was with the leasing agent calling me directly from her cell phone to apologize for the miscommunication & the problems caused by this incident, which at this point made no difference. We start email communications and at 5:53pm I receive an email from Janice stating I was still responsible for the lease. I needed clarification of this so I rush home in hopes I would catch Janice, & I did. So our conversation led to the discovery of whited out information on the paper work in my lease file. Are you f**king kidding me? This is completely unethical for a company that claims to go "by the book". I'm still trying to come to terms with Julie, the District manager, to find a resolution. She claims my reasoning isn't enough to "break the lease" as Janice had offered to give me the free day to move in (after she realized what Carla had done). That I had "changed my mind" on the lease. I understand I signed the new lease but I was honest through the entire process unlike her staff. Julie mentioned this situation doesn't require attorney involvement, which I really do not care for, I just want to move forward. She said she would allow for me to be "let out" of the lease and back date my 60 day notice so that my move out date is 6/16. I'm sure they will try to get every penny possible out of me. I had submitted all change of address forms, transferred electricity & cable, now I have mail floating somewhere, and had to cancel all other transfer requests. This takes time and it's a huge inconvenience. We had to take time off work to move into the new unit which unfortunately we could not cancel in time and now we are stuck with two days without pay. I have to stay an extra month here which at this point is fine as I HAVE NO WHERE TO GO and have to start searching for a new rental. Everything has been a huge disappointment and inconvenience. Again, the units are great, & should you decide to move here, just make sure you get all details in writing & get a copy of all paperwork as these ladies will try to find a loophole anywhere to cover their ass.
