I've only been to Vegas a few times, but I've always stayed on the strip. This was the first time we stayed off strip in the downtown area. The area itself isn't too bad. It's right on Fremont Street and there are actually a lot of things going on in the area. Lots of street performers, little shops, food places. And the Fremont Street Experience - light show is pretty much right outside so it does make things convenient. Plus, when we wanted to go to the strip, we just walked a couple blocks and took the local bus. It took a while to get there because of traffic and the constant on and off of tourists, but it was only $2 versus paying $20 for a taxi! The rooms were a little old and worn out looking, but it is an older hotel, so that was to be expected. But everything was clean and it's much cheaper than staying on the strip. It definitely gave me a different kind of Vegas experience.
