| - We are so fortunate to live in walking distance of Chinatown and the unique surprises we receive with new businesses.
I heard of Gabi Coffee and Bakery on Facebook.
They had me once I read of the porcelain cups and roasted coffee beans.
In Las Vegas we need more of these friendly, welcoming, and peaceful refuges.
The decor takes your breath away the instant you leave the sunny parking lot, and you can see there is a hive of activity and cheerful voices inside.
This gorgeous place has been here since April, and our first visit went very well.
The 4 stars are for charming environment, very tasty pastries, great iced coffee, the sweetness of the staff, the fascinating touches we only see after a second inspection, the great sitting nooks which also include a huge swing and a library of sorts with steps for relaxing on.
I am planning of having a few weekday visits and will be hoping the service becomes more ready to accommodate the flurry of new visitors. The 5th star got stuck in my craw because staff are willing and helpful, but their enthusiasm and skill are stymied by the space constraints.
As one who has managed a cafe and kitchen, I felt the space for staff to work in leads to a bit of a logjam, and the design is made for beauty vs function, and thus, service could be faster.
We met new friends who happened to be in awe of the beautiful cafe right along with us.
We had iced coffee, which was superb, a delightful chocolate croissant and a cruffin: a croissant designed as a muffin, and filled with coffee cream.
The decision of what to order was tough, but at 11am we wanted to snag a couple of chairs, since the crowd was building up on Sunday morning.
I saw sandwiches, charcoal buns with sesame, and beautiful green tea red bean cakes. Having lived in China for two years, I am a great admirer of red bean anything!
We enjoyed watching little children playing around the tiers of books, looking at the gorgeous tapestries, old ceremonial Korean robes and headdresses, paintings, and that crazy atrium where beans are roasted and delicacies are baked.
You will get the idea of how mesmerizing is this cafe: I am thrilled that the business seems to be doing so well.
