| - This is a pretty good Harris Teeter location. The shelves are well stocked and the staff is much, much more polite than the Concord location just off of George Liles, Parkway.
Today, the young woman working at the deli counter was attentive, helpful, hygienic, polite and made a perfect sandwich. The free sugar cookies they offer the wee HT Patrons were well stocked today. And the lines were blessedly short, as I stopped in just before work.
Harris Teeter is an upscale grocery chain. The first one in my small middle class NC town. It was a refreshing relief from Walmart, where most folks in this area do their food shopping. HT is not known for low prices, but their service, an upscale experience and exceptional offerings were supposed to justify the higher costs. For awhile their service was good enough, but in 2015 Publix came to town. As a result the bar has been significantly raised.
At this point, cookies and a beautifully stocked, dimmed wine aisle aren't enough to continue to win the hard earned grocery dollars of the rather scant population of the upscale grocery shopper in this area.
I am not sure how HT will measure up in the long run. But on the strength of the service I received this morning and in the spirit of a bigger, more competitive market... I hope they step up their game.
