The only reason for giving Country Club a 5 star rating rating is that there was no option to give it more. This was a truly wonderful dining experience. We decided to opt for the chefs taste of New Orleans menu. This is a sampling menu that gives you 6 courses for a fixed price. The meal started with a shrimp remoulade. This was followed by the Chef Carlos' Gumbo. The gumbo had andouille sausage, shrimp, and crawfish in the gumbo. This is Cajun style cooking so the sauce had a bit of a kick to it (not too hot, after all, we are gringos!) Delicious! Next came the jumbo lump crab cake. It came with truffled herb salad and ravigote sauce. The presentation was very interesting. It was a small cylinder about 2 inches in diameter and an inch high. It was topped with the truffled herb salad. It was in an absolutely delicious sauce. This dish was followed by the Louisiana pecan crusted fish. It was described as jumbo lump crab meat. It was topped with a very interesting small green salad and surrounded by corn cream which was in turn was surrounded by a Creole meuniere sauce. The next course was a Creole spiced petite filet mignon. It was on top of an andouille mashed potato salad with tobacco onions and surrounded by a homemade worcestershire sauce. Wow!! Dessert was beignets with cafe au lait sauce for dipping.
The service was impeccable. The waiter, the busboys, and the food runners, all did their jobs to perfection. It is hard to imagine a better place to have a birthday celebration meal. I will definitely come back again. My only complaint is that there was so much food we should have shared one tasting menu rather than having one of each.
