| - There are lots of hidden gems in Chinatown, and the Golden Tiki is one of them. It's a little hard to find, but definitely worth the search!
Like most tiki bars, this is one dark joint. But unlike, say, Frankie's Tiki Room, this one has an antechamber (like in a submarine or a spaceship) to help you adjust your eyes before you plunge into darkness.
Once inside, there are several little rooms and a large bar to choose from. We sat at the bar and each had a tropical treat: Hemingway's Ruin for me and a Painkiller for my friend. Both of our drinks were fine, but I wish I had read the menu more closely: Mai Tais are only $5 from 3 to 6, and we walked in at 5:15. We really could have done some damage with those! As it was, our drinks were pretty strong, and a pretty good deal at $11 each.
A lot of eclectic bands play here at night, and I can imagine this place getting pretty packed. But for happy hour on a Saturday, it was a pretty chill atmosphere that will definitely draw me back.
