  • Following a writers' group meeting, three of us decided we wanted to get a late night bite to eat, somewhere in the Dormont area. For some strange reason, I was thinking, 'Oh, The Apple Inn.' It had been years since I was there and told my friends, "They have German food I think, and have this awesome pickle tray." "I can go for a pickle tray," my one friend replied. Apparently, it has been years since they had that pickle tray and I was way off base on the German food. However, our options were Eat and Park or Tom's diner and hearing that the Apple had awesome Appletini's we stayed. Rob, the owner was sympathetic to our hunger plight. He was pleasant, congenial, upbeat and smiled quite a bit. There was a female bartender who really worked that bar and, from what I had seen, kept the drinks flowing. Rob introduced us to the munchie menu. A selection of bar bites that are reasonably priced. We ordered a slew, along with some drinks. Everything is reasonably priced, and the bar munchies were wonderful. The friend Zucchini was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside, the dipping sauce was homemade tasting marinara. This really isn't a dining place, it's a social place. So let's make the review about that. What is social? It's the atmosphere and people. Karaoke was underway, a young DJ, named Drew was working. He recognized us as new and came over and introduced himself, welcoming us to The Apple. His mix of the singers was awesome, making the singers sound even more professional. They have some amazing vocalist that go there. The Voice is missing out! If you think karaoke is screaming, drunk bad singers, you need to go to The Apple to hear the good stuff. The bar is clean and the bathroom spotless. Although I hear they remolded recently. The drinks were just right, average price and they weren't skimpy on making them. You can tell the folks that go there are regulars and even as a newcomer, they treat you like you've been coming there for years. The Apple Inn is located in Dormont and there is street parking and a parking lot across the street. I was going to take off one star because some young man named Josh kept playing darts in front of the karaoke singers, but then why should The Apple suffer a star loss because of Josh and the singers didn't seem to mind. Note that this is a smoking establishment, but during the time we were there, it was barely noticeable where we sat. One of my friends is very sensitive to smoke and she wasn't bothered at all. We left at midnight. If you're looking for a fun time, good drinks and stellar karaoke, I recommend The Apple Inn. Now .. if they would just bring back that pickle tray ...
