| - Combining two of my favorite cuisines (Korean and Mexican) is a little eatery aptly named KoMex far away from the Strip. For locals and I, this has remained a favorite spot for their fusionesque approach toward comfort food.
Sporting a tiny parking lot and a strip mall locale, the low key vibes of KoMex immediately reminds me of places I'd see in Hawaii (the food also screams Hawaii as well). Dated interior with a homey feel, this unassuming spot has family vibes written all over it. Popular during lunch time but a real casual option in the evening, this place gets better and better each time I visit.
Service gets major points for their willingness to please and the family of youngsters are always putting their game face on. They've been polite and welcoming since my first visit and do a good job despite the demand. Management has done well with keeping the food interesting and affordable. Ordering food can be a bit on the slow side, but they've prefaced this by noting the food is made with love.
They've done well with the bulgolgi and I'm certain have created hardcore fans as a result of it. One could rock bulgolgi fries, bulgolgi burritos, or even the amazingly hearty bulgolgi torta. Go next level with the bulgolgi grilled cheese, bulgolgi tater tots or a traditional bulgolgi plate with rice and salad. With this meat, anything (delicious) is possible.
For non-bulgolgi items, I have been enamored with their beef kimchi fried rice. Order a runny egg and take a deep breath when the yolk magically weaves everthing together. While I enjoy the spicy pork rice plate, I also love the pork belly musubi. Nachos with any of the aforementioned meats is highly recommended.
Don't feel the need to dine in? Go for takeout, but I'd recommend calling in ahead of time. For my fellow hangul speaking friends, this is the antithesis of traditional Korean food, so don't be disappointed when jungols / jigaes are missing from the menu. Instead, come hungry and enjoy one of Las Vegas' most unique local spots.
