| - The Royal Ontario Museum (the R.O.M) is located right next to Yorkville. Which is a great neighbourhood to have a stroll or sit down at a restaurant after a day at the museum.
There are two subway stations that take you to the museum.
St.George subway station, exit through Bedford drive, or go to Museum station.
Anyone driving should park along side streets between Bedford and Spadina.
The Museum
It's definitely air conditioned as you feel it as soon as you get in. (A few rooms are a bit warm).
Tours
They have a schedule for tours however, if you don't need to know about the minuet details then this won't be much fun at all, especially for children or foreigners. I attended the 3pm guided tour that explained the Canadian Inuits. Although it was nice, there were lots of information that could of been omitted.
I once attended the tour of the natural rocks and found it interesting.
As for the other tours, you would have to inquire about them.
Interesting Sections
The Chinese and Japanese areas had interesting large pieces of architecture and sculptures, along with intricate pieces of furniture, accesories, swords, writing pieces.
Dinosaurs - a fun area for all, as it also has a free picture section where t-Rex comes to life on a computer screen, you or a friend press the button on the computer, 5 seconds later it takes the pic of you in the frame with T-Rex. This is emailed to you.
Natural artifacts - crystallized rocks of all shapes and sizes from the beautiful Opal, pyrite to different colour diamonds.
They have a section that shows the raw form of the rock, and then a polished and nicely cut finished jewellery piece. Just beautiful how it comes to life.
Mammal area is great for all. Kids love the bat cave section. there is a small kid center where kids can interact with the staff on hand and learn.
Those were my favorite areas that I'm sure most will also enjoy.
Have fun!!!
