  • Had a very good lunch at Il Mulino on a Thursday. We had a reservation for 1:00 and there was only one other party in the restaurant, which is criminal, because this place is solid. As other Yelpers note, they bring you a load of gratis appetizers: parmesan chunks taken directly off a massive wheel, salami, a bread basket, probably the best zucchini I've ever had (dried and served with hot peppers and garlic), and garlic toast. They gave us a ton of the zucchini too. Of the breads, the spicy toast was my favorite, but the garlic toast was a very close second. You could have bought a bottle of wine and just had a great lunch with all the stuff they bring you as soon as you sit down. Speaking of wine, Il Mulino has an above average list with prices you would expect for a restaurant on the Strip. So, not cheap, and no real deals to be found. But, they are not out of line with other Italian joints on the Strip. Italy is heavily featured, as it should be. Even though we had all of the free stuff mentioned above, we decided on the calamari as an appetizer. Very classic, fried crispy with no greasiness whatsoever and served with a nice tomato sauce. This was not revolutionary or a departure in any way from traditional fried calamari, but a really strong example of what the dish can be. For our entrees, we all went with specials. I had the lobster ravioli, and my 2 companions had eggplant parm stuffed with crab and sausage and pappardelle with bolognese. My preference was the ravioli, the eggplant, and the bolognese pasta. Nothing was bad mind you, it was all very good pasta, but that is the order of my preferences. The ravioli was stuffed full of lobster and the flavor came through. It had sort of a pinkish sauce that was seasoned very well. All of the pasta was cooked properly. Service was great. It was a bummer for the restaurant that it wasn't busier, but it was great for us since we basically had a waiter to ourselves for nearly 2 hours. Had a couple of bottles of wine and it was a very good meal, better than I was expecting given some of the reviews I'd read prior to dining. I would absolutely return.
