  • This place has really stepped their game up over the last year or two. It used to be piled so high and deep with "junk" (actually great pieces that looked junky just heaped together) that it was difficult to maneuver through it, let alone shop! They must have hired a new visual merchandiser (and rumor has it there is a new owner) because my visit there this past weekend was a real treat. The formerly piled-up back room is now nicely edited, but by no means is the store sparse. They have managed to maintain that eclectic thrift-store look while giving the place the touch of professionalism it needed. Good thing too, as they risk alienating their current customer-base with a complete overhaul, IMHO. The collection they were showing has stepped up in quality as well. They are showing a mixture of different styles, but mostly vintage and reproduction mid-century modern pieces. Walnut is really having a moment right now, and they certainly are capitalizing on it: walnut shelving; walnut headboards; walnut side table; walnut dining sets. It's beautiful (albeit a little dark for my taste), and the matching finishes really gives the store that "cohesive" look that it was lacking before. It was my first time there on a Saturday, and boy -- was it busy! Still got a cheerful hello from the staff, but no direct hands-on help. I suppose that's typical, as we were obviously just browsing. Past experience here (not this trip) allows me to pass this info on: if you are really interested in something, ask about it. It's likely a reproduction, and they can probably get it in another colour/finish/etc... Not sure if the pricing of vintage pieces is firm. Going to attempt to haggle on a (vintage) piece of art I saw there. Look for an update!
