| - I've been monitoring the renovation of this place on facebook and was excited to check out the final product finally! The space is really inviting, and super trendy - you feel like you're in some sort of chic Chicago bar that is trying to be upscale farm-to-table chic, when really you are in Lakewood, Ohio, which doesn't have to try to be farm-to-table and the Chicago-esque chic is a nice surprise. All sorts of confusing, but the end result is a decent wine bar for the up-and-coming Lakewood non-dive bar scene. Unfortunately for me, this place was mobbed with people - which is awesome for the area and the restaurant, but not so awesome when you are hungry and have to wait over an hour for a table. Luckily, you can buy a bottle of wine at the bar, and stand at a high top while you wait.
After being seated, we ordered a cheese board with a choice of cheeses and meat, which was pretty delicious: we got prosciutto di parma, a raclette, and a blue cheese, which came with jam, honey, pistachios, and some fruit. That being said, I was not super impressed by the depth or variety of the wine selection, and the pizza we ordered from the fancy behind-the-bar pizza oven was thick, chewy, and hard to eat. The best part about the place, in my humble opinion (pun!), was the place itself - although super loud inside, it has lots of tables, lots of standing space by the bar, and a whole outdoor patio that is open in the summer via a garage door front that is so trendy nowadays. Really, a great place to meet up with friends, share a bottle (or three), and snack on some food. I wouldn't say that my dinner experience was great, but I think it will calm down once the initial opening-month frenzy is over, and maybe they will perfect their pizza techniques. Street parking was not a problem (I got a spot right in front). Overall, looking forward to returning soon!
