  • This is review if for "La Cocina." The staff here is so friendly. The food here is so good. The other patrons are, well, questionable. I came here for Lunch on a Friday afternoon. There is really very few choices in the area that I'd be able to go to and make it back to work which is 2 miles away and I only have a 30 minute lunch break. The women in La Cocina are so friendly. They mainly only speak Spanish and my Spanish is okay and their English is okay, so we are able to communicate effectively in Spanglish. Anyway, the women here really put their hearts and souls into their cooking. Not only that, they also are extremely hospitable. I came here for a specific purpose. For whatever reason, I had a very specific craving. I wanted fried chicken and rice, and a large cup of agua fresca to go with it. I didn't bother looking at the menu. I simply asked one of the women for a plate of fried chicken and rice, along with pico de gallo to go with it. The portions she gave me were plentiful. She continued to ask if there was more that I wanted. Finally we get to the agua frescas. They had four varieties available. There was Fresa, Jamaica, Horchata, and Sandia. I normally always get horchata, but I wanted to try something new. I had no idea what the fresa or sandia tasted like, so for a bried moment, I stood there with a bit of confusion. She was quick to notice this, and offer me a sample of each one. I sampled the fresa, which was SOOOOO good. I almost opted for that one, until she offered me a sample of the Sandia. I'm glad I waited. The Sandia was so much more delicious. It was so good, that I asked for the largest size they had. I think it was at least 40 ounces. It's been a while since I've had a drink that large. My total came out to about seven plus tax. I was expecting to pay so much more. The food was absolutely delectable, more than I could ever anticipate. The one qualm I have about this place was the guy sitting across me at another table. I think he may have been staring at me the whole time I was eating. I had noticed him and another gentleman speaking before I had even sat down. When I finished my meal, it became clear he was definitely staring at me. For how long, I have no idea. He says to me "Que paso?" I tip my head as to say, "what's up?" and then I look up at the television above me to hopefully get him to stop looking my way. I don't believe I would have had anything to gain from a conversation with him. He was probably either gonna ask me for money or try to sell me drugs. Either way, I would not have been interested. It was a good meal, and I didn't want to ruin the experience.
