  • When I first moved in I was very pleased with how great the office staff was and how readily available community services and maintenance staff were. The grounds were always maintained and although there are many children and pets that live at this community it was always up kept and clean. At one point there was an issue with roaches and the office staff was on top of it from the second I went in to alert them of the problem. Over time however, as more people with large dog breeds moved in there were increasingly more instances of people, children and small pets being attacked. There were also many people who openly walked their dogs in the neighborhood and did not pick up after them. The office staff had to deal with this issue as it increasingly got worse and Sheryl seemed to have started to weed out the bad pet owners, although there was still a major issue with people picking up after their pets. Fast forward to the current company that runs the community and its not a very pleasant place to live. From random apartment inspections to decrease in services, the community declined. During the time period of a handful of months where the community was being sold and the management was being replaced there was an increase in theft, vandalism and the security officer no longer had a presence on the grounds, not to mention the security gate was broken. The new managements response was no where near the approach the old management took to safety. Where the old management would call and inquire about safety issues or have the safety officer make a special effort to come by your area, the new management simply posted a letter on the mail room door to remind residents that "your safety is your own responsibility" and that they "will not be responsible for your welfare" While I understand they do not want to take financial responsibility for potential thefts etc. people in the community want to feel like where they live is safe and that the office cares about their safety. The old management (Sheryl, Cheryl and Ryan) cared. I work late at night and was followed home twice during this transition. Cheryl, one of the old managers was all over the issue and actually gave me her personal information so that if I ever needed anything I could contact her again if I needed to. The new management has very poor communication. I dropped off a rent check on August 1st and on August 15th after my check had been cashed I got a letter and a phone call to tell me I was being evicted for non payment. The response when I went in to the office to show them my bank statement showing the cashed check? "Oh we didn't know you turned your check in before the 1st" WHAT!? that does not make any sense. I tuned in my 30 days notice and they tried to fine me for attempting to break the lease early because I had told one of the old managers, in writing by the way, and not the new manager, who was never around. Once they found the letter they did not apologize but simply told me "Ryan does not work here any more so that does not count". IGNORANT. Luckily it was in writing. When I asked for a statement detailing the work they were charging me for at move out they sent me a generic statement for potential costs in the units, they were charging me for work that had not been done yet. I feel that move out charges and overcharging for below average quality and workmanship is pretty typical for apartment communities though, so I am not overly surprised that they attempted to charged me the same amount to carpet a four bedroom house for my 750 square foot apartment (no carpet flooring in the kitchen, dining room and bathroom) Basically for the cost keep in mind a few things: 1. You are right around the corner from Guadalupe and there are always sketchy people walking around (safety is on you!) 2.There are many nicer communities, houses and condos you could rent for the same price. 3.You have to deal with the office staff that communicate like grade school children and have to deal with an outright rude and incompetent office manager, Dawn. 4. In terms of the new maintenance staff, they only accidentally walked in to my apartment to do work with no work order twice. Wish they were that diligent when I actually needed repair work completed. 5. They are hurting for residents and as more families move out more party people seem to be moving in, there is always beer bottles and trash strewn about the grounds after late, loud nights. All and all definitely not the worse place to live but where I had once recommended a couple friends to come and check out living here, I would not currently do so.
