| - I have only been to Mystic Pointe Yoga once so far, so this rating is based on one visit, which was back in the late winter/early spring.
Also, I should add that I have been going to Downward Dog for years, and have been spoiled by well-trained die-hard yoga instructors, so this maybe isn't a fair comparison. But Mystic Pointe yoga just felt very "new" and amateur to me.
I bought a pass through a Living Social deal. The studio was still quite new at this point, and it seemed that most of the other students in the class were also new to yoga (maybe a product of the deal - lots of beginners trying it while it's a cheap). The downside to that, is that for the more experienced students are slowed down by the beginners. Ideally, new students would be encouraged to take a dedicated beginners' class before going to the regular scheduled classes, so that there is sort of a minimum level of understanding in the class.
The class I went to was more of a fusion class, combining pilates, a bit of fitness and yoga, which is not really my preference, but I thought I'd give it a try. The instructor was friendly and upbeat and positive. But I didn't come away feeling relaxed and toned like I normally would from a yoga class. In fact, we did so many butt-clenching lunges, that I came away very tense!
Kudos to Mystic Pointe yoga for introducing a schedule with variety. I may just try another class in the near future. But in the meantime, I unfortunately let my Living Social pass expire. I thought I would wait it out a bit, and return when more of a yoga-groove has been met?
