Visiting PHX so we wanted to try something we did not have back home. Walked in and was greeted by a friendly hostess who quickly sat us at our table. She did great and earned one of the two stars above. Asked if it was our first visit which it was and continued to welcome us as we walked to our table. Then the waitress came and took our drink orders and also asked if it was out first visit. She then explained the menu in detail and answered our questions. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered the fried shrimp. Up until this point our visit was fine and the helpfulness of the waitress earned the second star. The water tasted funny but we chalked it up to being in a different city. Once the food came I grabbed a fry which they were delicious. The waitress came by and asked how are "first bites" were. Well I had not taken one yet but my wife answered "so far so good". Then I thought to myself that's different, but thought it was cool that she came to check on us right away. Well that first bite of fish was disgusting. The fish was extremely oily and slimy. The batter was raw on the underside or so soggy from the oil that it tasted raw. I really wanted to like it cause I was starving so I tried the other piece, NOPE same nastiness. So I let my plate sit there till the waitress came by again. A few minutes later she came by and instead of asking if everything was ok she asked if I was finished and took my plate. Now, who sees a full plate of food with one small bite missing from the main part of the dish and assumes I'm done and that everything was ok!?!?! I'm not a child, I'm a full grown 225 pound man. How many grown men that you know eat two bites of a $20 plate and then are full? Not once did she ask again how our meal was. Just brought the check and that was it. So since I wasn't asked I paid for my meal, left a note about the fish and told them to look for my review on Yelp. Then I walked out hungry and ate some McDonald's on the way home. If I can eat McDonald's you know my expectations are not that high but the fish at Kings was so subpar I would have rather paid $20 for a filet - O - fish sandwich. Lol. Needless to say we will not be returning, must've been why the restaurant was so empty at prime dinner time on a Friday night. Should've been a red flag when we walked in. Waitress if your reading this it's nothing against you. I know you didn't cook that crap. But learn from it. You got potential but pay attention.
