My mom recommended Dr. Shapiro to me, but when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist told me that they wouldn't see any patients that had seen another gastrointerologist within two years. I explicitly told her, "I only visited that doctor once for an initial consult, and I'd like a second opinion so I know whether or not to proceed with an expensive colonoscopy" and she point-blank told me "no". My mother then called, thinking maybe he would want to help an existing patient of his, and she was also completely shut down. He lost my mom as a patient that day. How is the average American supposed to educate themselves on the varying costs of healthcare when a doctor won't even give them the time of day? Can someone explain how Healthcare in the US is a "free market" with this BS happening?
