  • I usually have great things to say about Mastro's but this location was unimpressive. It is shocking how dark they keep it - I attended a business meeting here and was escorted to the back room (across from the kitchen) down an extremely dark hallway. A flashlight would have come in handy! We had a pre-fixe menu which is standard with our group size and the nature of our meeting, but I felt that the quality of the food may have been diminished due to this. I ordered a filet 'medium' (I know steak lovers, I know!) and so did two of my counterparts at the table. Every filet that was cooked 'medium' came out different - to the point of it being laughable. One most definitely had a well done filet (which no one ordered), mine was medium rare (more on the rare side as it was red but still warm throughout) and then one was correctly medium with a warm pink center. I am not sure if there were multiple chefs attending to our meals or ??? Since there was a presentation in progress there was no way of alerting the staff and we dealt with what we were served and traded amongst ourselves. The most surprising thing was that our wait staff were crude and you could tell they were bitter that evening - about what I am not sure. (I should not generalize it was two of the staff, the rest were fine but certainly not exceptional as I am accustomed to at Mastro's) The presentation was only for half of our time at Mastro's, so there was plenty of time for the staff to interact with us. One of my coworkers asked for a sparkling water and the waiter acted like it was a chore and asked another staff member to fulfill her request - they argued back and forth in front of us. Unreal for a high end establishment. I was also declined a hendrick's and soda due to it not being part of the pre-fixe meal - and definitely in a rude way. No other place that I have attended similar meetings at has done this, rather bring me the bill upon completion of our meal. Surprising again, but c'est la vie. There are so many wonderful steakhouses in Scottsdale - I would recommend another venue.
