You know in that video for "Drive" by The Cars where gorgeous supermodel Paulina Porizkova is sobbing uncontrollably one second and then laughing hysterically the next? (If not, see what I'm talking about in the video*)
That's what I felt like during my first visit to ACC. I was so happy to be seeing my first home Maple Leafs game! It was thrilling, walking through the dungeon-like corridor from Union Station into the arena. Then I ordered a sandwich and a beer and when they told me it was $25, I started crying. Kindly, the cashier told me there were napkins to the side and I could use those to dry my eyes at no extra cost.
Then I found my seat and much to my delight, the Leafs scored twice in the first six minutes of play. I was ecstatic! Then the Islanders came back and scored five unanswered goals. Again, I was in tears.
I kind of feel that's an appropriate way to feel about ACC. It's a nice arena. It was very easy to get around and there were plenty of places to buy food and beers. Getting out was very easy too....maybe it was because half the crowd left when they were down by 3 goals late in the 3rd, but it just seemed much less congested than Madison Square Garden by comparison.
But the prices of the food and beers are really kind of outrageous. $15 for Molson? Are you kidding me? And then I made the mistake ordering a Philly Cheesesteak (and you know how I feel about Philly in general). The thing came with mushrooms and barbecue sauce. Clearly, whoever crafted that sandwich has never been to Philadelphia....heck, they likely haven't left the Greater Toronto Area.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but for me ACC was just okay.
