| - This was my very first trip to Vegas!
This hotel was just okay. We paid between $18-$29/night (base) + all the other taxes and resort fees they charge. Its off the strip - same road, but across the interstate.
We took the shuttle here from the airport. I think it was about $10 per person and stops at several resorts along the strip before arriving at the Rio, which is the last stop.
Unless youre traveling alone, and you dont mind taking the scenic route, I'd strongly suggest taking an uber from the airport. It is cheaper and faster. Or rent a car and drive over as parking at the Rio is FREE!
CHECK-IN: Our check-in process was on the long side (30+ mins). The self check-in/out kiosks didnt work.
While standing in line, two different workers approached me - making small talk - trying "sell" me money!
"How long you here for? I'll comp you $200 (but you just have to take this tour.. and pay a small deposit of $50 to guarantee your spot.. we only have 2 spots left..)"
REALLY? How bout you pay me $200 for having to stand in this long ass line!!!! SHEESH!
ROOM KEY: Our room key didnt work, so we had to walk ALLLLL the way back to the front desk with our bags and stand in a different line to get it reset then walk ALLLLLL the way back to the elevators to go back up to our floor, then to our room. By this time, I felt like I had gotten my 10,000 steps in since entering the building and I was over this hotel already.
ROOMS: Theres a smoking tower and non-smoking tower. We stayed on the non-smoking side. Our friends stayed on the smoking side. There are SIGNIFICANT differences in smell and room condition between the two sides.
Our room was clean with nice furniture. No weird smells, holes, spots or mystery stains on the carpets or couch.
Our friends' room on the smoking side was GROSS! I thought I was gonna catch a F--king DISEASE! UGH! The carpet was old, maroon and probably original to the building. The brown L-shaped couch had all types of stains on it!! It looked and smelled like it hadnt been cleaned...EVER! I still cant believe they stayed in that room. But whatevs.
HOUSEKEEPING: You get a daily food credit if you decline housekeeping services. I think its $10 a day. But its only good at certain places in the hotel.
ESCALATORS: They were broken on the smoking tower side, so we had to navigate our way over to Smashburger, which is on the upper level on that side of the hotel. We asked random ppl how they got up there, so we could.
HERTZ: We tried to rent a car from the Hertz counter in the lobby, but the guy there was a total feminine douche! Why ask me what size car I want if there are NO cars available AT ALL? Like WHY ARE YOU OPEN??
FOOD: The food at the All-American Grille inside the Rio is better than the other restaurants there. Dont let the famous-name food chain restaurants fool you.
There is a small Starbucks stand outside the NS tower elevators. The lines are long, so be prepared for that.
There are no convenience/grocery stores within walking distance of the Rio. The souvenir shops are expensive. $3.25 for a small bag of potato chips??? NO! just NO!
You can buy hard liquor EVERYWHERE in Vegas (i. e. Target) so dont blow your money in the souvenir shops.
