| - The Catalyst is the "Animal House" of uptown living. I've lived here for quite a number of years and it has become a progressively worse place to live each year. So to make it easy, I'll provide the good the bad and the ugly...
UGLY - NOISE...Only really quiet time is 1am-7am. Noise from new building construction, resident dogs, the 7-Eleven located in the building and drunk kids who are just out of school who still think they're still in college (new jobs at the banks).
UGLY - FACILITIES...None of the treadmills have been fully functional for about 6 months (treadmill track jerks during a workout and televisions don't work). Outdoor furniture and grills are in poor shape and the building is generally in very average repair...most of it due to "Animal House" mentality of the partying residents. (NOTE: the building owner decided to install statues of animals outside the building this year instead of fixing the treadmills).
UGLY - EVENTS...The most popular event, the pool party, is like hanging out in a subway, except everyone is in bathing suits. Take meds if you decide to swim or get thrown in. No need to bring weed...there's plenty to go around. Good news if you're a drinker...there may actually be more alcohol at Catalyst pool parties than at the Mellow Mushroom bar downstairs. Most pool partiers don't even live here, they're guests of residents...the only thing missing is John "Bluto" Blutarsky and Eric "Otter" Stratton.
BAD - PARKING...Yes, our parking garage is across the street but we don't get priority parking. The bank next door has prime spaces except for the bottom floor which is for a handful of residents. The rest of us have to park above the bankers.
BAD - GROCERY...Yes, there's a 7-Eleven in the building but unless you're packing heat and want to buy 7-Eleven brand groceries you need another choice. "Sketch" customers in there all hours of the night. Fortunately, there's a Harris Teeter on the other side of town which is an easy walk or bike ride.
BAD - COST...Considering the drawbacks listed above, the Catalyst is relatively expensive. If it were quieter and better maintained then I'd be tempted to rate this as "good" due to the location.
GOOD - LOCATION...If you're OK with the stadium lights and outside noise (night baseball and music in the park in the summer whether you like it or not), then this is an outstanding location downtown, slam dunk!
I don't like writing a generally negative review on the Catalyst, but I'd want to have all of this information before I considered moving here.
