Very expensive pub which has died a death since the departure of it's last landlord and the death of its' music scene. The current landlord is very experienced and also has the pub over the road. Unfortunately he appears to have no passion for the job and his standard of beer keeping is poor. On paper there is a very good choice of real ale but rarely is it on form as I do not believe he keeps it well, cleans his lines after every barrel, has poorly trained bar staff who seem to think it should be served flat.
The food here was awful and they stopped for a while but now have relaunched rubbish with chips - do not bother with it. The music is also back but the old crowd pullers no longer play here. A shame, and I hope it gets better. July 2009 - An addition added some 2 month later - in fairness there has been an improved menu recently. The above is in the past tense and was ended with 'I hope it gets better'. If it is poor ale even the best bar staff in the world cannot pour it well. The beer here is very hit and miss and when you are lucky enough to be in when the pint you want is on, it will usually be off. I would estimate one out of five pints I have ordered in the past two months has been a good pint.
