For a while Mochi had been avoiding doing certain movements. Going down the side of the hill rather than the stairs in the complex or looking for help to get up on sofas and after living most of their life in lush Georgia the AstroTurf in Las Vegas was pretty confusing to those paws. Typically going to the bathroom in rocky landscaping to avoid the plastic grass I noticed the stumbling was more than just finding their footing. So I took them into a vet nearby the house. After checking internally for any spinal cord injuries the next thing I knew things began to change & by that evening Mochi stopped using the back two legs.
After a long sleepless night for the both of us, the doctors told me that my options were to either have surgery or place them in pain killers & sedatives & crate them for the next month to help Mochi heal somehow from the paralysis. As a holistic individual & an animal lover, that was no option for either of us.
Finding Dr. Brandt's office on Yelp in search of laser therapy made all the difference. We immediately started electronic acupuncture once a week and laser treatment 3x a week at the beginning. After about 3 months of changing everything for Mochi about their level of care - food, treatments, at home physical therapy - they gradually went from full assistance in walking & going to the bathroom to walking & running short distances & urinating on their own again.
While Mochi still gets the princess treatment being carried all around the house they do best on carpet & grass, but with what Dr. Brandt called the 'drunken sailor' walk at times. So happy to be able to care for the pup in ways that match our beliefs. Wish she worked on humans too! Thanks to the whole amazing staff for taking such great care of us always.
