| - I'm relatively new to Las Vegas, and was seeking a dermatologist to help me improve my skin for my upcoming wedding in May 2018. I struggle with blackheads, enlarged pores, and oily skin. After checking out reviews online, I went to see Dr. Greenberg.
I was impressed with the consult we had regarding my acne issues and the prescriptions he gave me. I had seen another dermatologist who had wanted to put me on Accutane right away, but I was uncomfortable with that as it is such an aggressive option. What I was prescribed by Dr. Greenberg worked for me, which was fantastic as this is a problem that I have dealt with for years.
During my next appointment with Dr. Greenberg, I mentioned that I had a few moles on my face that I would like to get removed. They had been there since childhood and haven't changed so I knew they weren't harmful. However, they have always made me a little bit self-conscious and I don't like how they look in photos. I explained to Dr. Greenberg that the mole on the side of my nose had been there since childhood, I had it removed previously via laser when I was about 10-12 years old, but it had ultimately come back. I was scheduled for a biopsy removal of the mole.
When I went in for the mole removal appointment, I was asked to sign a consent that I never saw. I was also not warned beforehand of about any potential for scarring or how long the healing process would be. Although I thought it was odd that not much was explained to me, I trusted Dr. Greenberg's judgement and went along with the procedure. The procedure was relatively painless and I was given aftercare instructions (keep the bandage on that day, keep the wound moist with the provided aftercare gel). I went home and went about my day.
Later that evening, my face began to swell and I peeked under the bandage. I knew at that moment that I had made a terrible mistake consenting to the procedure. There was a deep wound that I knew was unlikely to heal well. I followed the rest of the aftercare instructions exactly as provided to me.
I'm left with a rather large depressed scar next to my nose that is impossible to cover with makeup. My nose looks worse than it did prior to the procedure, and it honestly makes me tear up every time I take a close look at the scar in the mirror. During my follow-up appointment with Dr. Greenberg, he discussed several very expensive options for scar removal (ranging from ~$400 - ~$900). He also apologized for the scar that was left from the removal and said something along the lines of, "There's just not a lot of flesh in that area of the face and we don't know how patients are going to heal." Excuse me?! Had I known there was even the potential of scarring to this extent, I would not have consented to the removal. I feel as though an inappropriate method was used for the removal so that I would be almost forced into expensive scar removal procedures because I am in a desperate position due to my upcoming wedding.
I recently had a consult with another dermatologist, and I was told that the biopsy on my nose was done too deeply for a mole that didn't have "dangerous roots." We discussed removal of my other two moles, and I was told that only a slight discolored scar should be expected. This is further confirmation to me that the biopsy on my nose mole was overly aggressive and performed poorly.
***UPDATES*** Downgraded from two stars to one:
- It's a nightmare trying to refill my prescriptions with this office (my refill has been rejected twice from Express Scripts due to non-response from the office).
- I had my other two moles removed by a new dermatologist I'm seeing. Instead of the huge, bloody, swollen mess that was left after the mole on my nose was removed, both sites from the new removals were hardly visible with barely any swelling and NO blood. By contrasting my two experiences, it's painfully obvious that the mole removal by Dr. Greenberg was way over aggressive .
- My advice is to save yourself the pain and PERMANENT SCARS and see someone else. Unfortunately I'll be sporting the new hole in my nose on my wedding day.
